February 2015 Newsletter

Hi Friends,

It’s almost Valentine’s Day–the most romantic day of the year! We’re so glad February is here. Behind us lies old January, the driest month we have EVER had on record–at least since 1849 when rainfall record keeping began! Its cold nights and clear days set us to hoping another drought year is not looming on the horizon. Looking at our vineyards right now we thank goodness last December’s rainfall, a generous amount but still not up to normal levels, has replenished our ground water, so vital to all plant’s nourishment and growth. With those rains our vines regenerated themselves after harvest and are now looking healthy and invigorated. The vineyard soil is moist and covered with a carpet of green. All looks right for this time of year. And the good thing is we’re looking at more rain on the horizon. In fact, it is predicted to start raining soon! This is definitely the time of year for rain so–let it pour!

This is also the time of year when farmers find time to enter wine competitions, attend meetings and seminars and conduct other business they don’t generally have time for otherwise. And this year we are proud to say O’Connell Vineyards has been chosen to participate in one of the premier Pinot Noir wine events in the United States - Charlie Palmer’s Pigs and Pinot at the Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg on March 21st. To let you know just how prestigious and popular this event has become, word is that tickets were sold out in two minutes!

We can certainly tell you how good our small lot estate grown O’Connell Vineyards Pinot Noir wine is. This is another vindication that our Pinot is definitely as good as we know it is! And of course, we know it is incredibly delicious! Spreading the word is our goal and in that regard Pigs and Pinot can only help our delicious small lot, single clone wine become more known in the world.

We welcome you to taste it yourself. Just think of sipping a seductively warm, delicious Pinot Noir wine with your lover. Our Pinot Noir is the perfect wine for your Valentine’s Day celebration. Paired with chocolate it is devine! Our vintage 2012 is going fast. Get your supply soon before it runs out. This special discount will be valid through Valentine’s Day. For shipping please order by February 8th to receive your wine by Valentine’s Day. Your significant other will be glad. And so will you.

Happy Valentines Day!
